Samsung continues to enhance the user experience of its widely-used free ad-supported streaming service, Samsung TV Plus, with the rollout of the latest update – version 5.2. This update brings an array of user interface (UI) enhancements and new features, aiming to streamline content discovery and elevate the overall streaming experience for users across 24 countries where Samsung TV Plus is available.
The focal point of the update is the redesigned home screen, offering users an immediate overview of available content, including popular titles and recently watched programs. The home screen now includes new categories such as Live TV, Movies/TV Shows, Music, Kids, and Settings, making it easier for viewers to navigate through the diverse range of content offered by Samsung TV Plus.
Another notable highlight of the update is the introduction of region-specific tabs catering to the content preferences of different markets. The Music tab, for instance, is now accessible to users in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, while the Kids tab extends its reach to users in the U.S., Europe, Brazil, Mexico, and India. Users in India will also benefit from the newly introduced News tab, equipped with multilingual support to enhance accessibility.
The updated UI not only focuses on content categorization but also improves navigation with larger UI elements, ensuring a seamless experience as users explore the extensive library of 2,500 channels globally.
Samsung TV Plus users will now find it even more convenient to access Video on Demand (VOD) content. The VOD section is now integrated into the channel guide, enabling users to enjoy instant playback of select programs without waiting for a specific episode to air. This enhancement simplifies content consumption, providing users with more flexibility in their viewing choices.
Furthermore, the update introduces the "More Like This" feature, a personalized content recommendation system based on users' viewing history. This addition enhances content discovery, offering tailored suggestions aligned with individual preferences.
The latest update is compatible with all Samsung Smart TVs released in 2019 or later, ensuring a widespread and accessible rollout for Samsung TV Plus users globally.
In the official blog, Yonghoon Choi, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, "Over the past year, we have witnessed a 60% increase in global viewing time on Samsung TV Plus — a testament to the platform’s expansive content library and user-friendly design. We will continue to evolve and enhance our services to provide a more intuitive and enjoyable viewing experience for our users.”
