TCL has unveiled its latest addition to the TV market with the launch of the 98-inch 4K TV, further expanding its S Series lineup. The new model, known as the 98S550G, offers an array of features aimed at delivering an immersive viewing experience. While the TV comes with an attractive price tag, it also competes with larger, more expensive models offered by other manufacturers.

The introduction of the TCL 98S550G brings yet another option for consumers seeking a massive screen for their entertainment needs. With a price of $5,000, TCL's offering significantly undercuts its competitors, with similar-sized models from Samsung, Sony, and LG often reaching price points of $8,000 to $10,000. This attractive pricing strategy, combined with its extensive feature set, is likely to catch the attention of consumers looking for a cinematic experience without breaking the bank.

The TCL 98” S5 delivers a pixel count of 3,840 x 2,160. The TV boasts a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, lending smoothness to motion-intensive content such as sports and action movies. Complementing the resolution and refresh rate is an array of image-enhancing technologies, including Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ high dynamic range.

TCL has harnessed the power of its proprietary AIPQ Engine Gen3 to optimize picture quality across diverse sources. This third-generation processor refines color accuracy, clarity, and depth, elevating the overall viewing experience. The integration of a Wide Color Gamut and High Brightness LED Backlight further enriches the visuals, resulting in a dynamic and captivating picture quality.

TCL’s S Class 98-inch TV offers four 4K HDMI inputs, two support 60Hz input, one 120Hz and one 144 Hz.

Sound quality is not overlooked in the new TCL 98” S5. The television features an audio system comprising two 15W speakers and a 20W subwoofer. With support for Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X, viewers are immersed in an audio environment that complements the visuals. Additionally, Bluetooth streaming facilitates private listening through wireless headphones.

TCL hasn't forgotten about the gaming enthusiasts with the new 98S550G. The TV offers an Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for seamless gaming, along with AMD Freesync Premium Pro technology that minimizes input lag. TCL's Game Accelerator 240 doubles the native 120Hz refresh rate, delivering smoother gameplay experiences.

As part of the Google TV platform, the TCL 98” S5 offers easy access to a plethora of streaming services, making it a versatile entertainment hub. This smart TV also supports voice control, enhancing user convenience.

To sweeten the deal further, TCL has partnered with the NFL, offering buyers a $200 discount on NFL Sunday Ticket subscriptions from YouTube and YouTube TV until September 19, 2023. This promotion adds an extra layer of value for sports enthusiasts.

“Watching a game on a TCL 98” TV is not like stepping to a slightly larger screen size; it is a completely different experience,” said Chris Hamdorf, SVP, TCL in a press release. “With a third more screen area of an 85” TV, a TCL 98” TV transforms you from watching the game to truly feeling like you are there. TCL is now going to lead the way by making that amazing experience more affordable, and therefore, achievable. As the Official TV Partner of the NFL and a top two best-selling TV brand in the US for four consecutive years, it just makes sense that we are delivering the perfect big game TV.”

The TCL 98S550G is available for presale on TCL's official website, targeting consumers in the United States. The company has not yet confirmed international availability.
