With its new 55-inch OLED TV, Sansui aims to make high-end display technology accessible to a wider audience at just $799.

Sansui’s 55-Inch OLED TV: An Affordable OLED Option Enters the Market

Sansui, a brand known for its high-quality audio and video products in the 1970s and 1980s, is making a significant return to the U.S. market with the introduction of its 55-inch OLED TV. The model, officially named the Sansui S55VOUG, is priced at $799, making it one of the most affordable OLED TVs currently available. This marks a major shift in the OLED TV market, which is typically dominated by more expensive offerings from brands like LG, Sony, and Samsung.

Sansui’s 55-inch OLED TV packs a range of features that place it squarely in competition with its higher-priced counterparts. The TV boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, which is an important specification for those interested in fast-paced media like gaming and sports.

OLED technology, known for delivering deep blacks and vibrant colors, enhances the viewing experience by providing greater contrast and lifelike detail. Like its competitors, this model supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) for high dynamic range (HDR) content, ensuring that users get the most out of streaming services and 4K content.

In terms of connectivity, the Sansui OLED TV offers four HDMI ports—two of which support HDMI 2.1, enabling features like Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low-Latency Mode (ALLM). These features are particularly attractive to gamers, as they reduce input lag and ensure smooth gameplay.

Additionally, one HDMI 2.1 port features eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), allowing for high-quality audio transmission to external sound systems. Complementing the gaming features is a 120Hz refresh rate, which ensures fluid motion in fast-moving scenes, an essential factor for both video game enthusiasts and action movie lovers.

The TV also includes dual-band Wi-Fi ac, an Ethernet port, and a single USB 3.0 port, covering most standard connectivity needs. Bluetooth capability is present, which allows users to connect Bluetooth headphones for private listening or other devices for additional functionality.

Sansui has integrated a 2.1 channel sound system into this TV, featuring 40 watts of total audio output, including a subwoofer. This built-in sound system supports Dolby Atmos, providing users with a more immersive audio experience right out of the box. The inclusion of Dolby Atmos allows viewers to experience multi-dimensional sound, whether they are watching movies or playing games.

With the integrated subwoofer, the TV is capable of delivering richer bass without the need for an external soundbar, although audiophiles may still opt for additional audio equipment for a more robust sound experience.

From a design perspective, the Sansui 55-inch OLED TV features a slim 4.4mm frame with almost no bezels, giving it a modern and sleek appearance. This minimalistic design is supported by a central metal pedestal base, which provides stability while maintaining a stylish look. The TV’s slim profile makes it an excellent choice for wall mounting, but it can also stand on a media console without taking up much space, offering flexibility in its placement.

One of the more unique features of Sansui’s OLED TV is its AI-powered karaoke function. This feature allows users to remove vocals from YouTube videos in real time while displaying on-screen lyrics, transforming the TV into a karaoke machine for impromptu performances. While this may seem like a niche function, it could appeal to families or individuals who enjoy entertaining at home.

The TV is powered by Google TV, providing a user-friendly interface with access to a wide range of streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+. Google TV also offers personalized recommendations, making it easier for users to discover new content. The inclusion of a voice-activated remote allows for hands-free control, further enhancing the ease of use.

The Sansui S55VOUG 55-inch OLED TV is priced at $799, though this price may vary slightly depending on retailer promotions. Major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Micro Center, and BJ’s Wholesale Club are expected to stock the product, with the TV becoming available in early October 2024. At launch, it was found listed at retailers such as Newegg and Micro Center, with Micro Center being one of the few to display the discounted price.

"We're excited to launch this groundbreaking product at a price point that truly disrupts the OLED market," said Jackey Li, CEO at EliteLux Technologies, Inc. "With the Sansui OLED TV, consumers no longer have to compromise on quality to stay within their budget. This launch represents our commitment to making high-end technology accessible to everyone."

Compared to rival models from LG, Samsung, and Sony, Sansui’s pricing is remarkably low. For example, LG’s B-Series OLED TVs typically start at around $1,300, making Sansui’s offering a significant value proposition for those looking to enjoy OLED technology without breaking the bank.

It’s important to note, however, that while the price is appealing, Sansui has not yet disclosed details about the panel used in the TV. Reports from flatpanelshd.com suggest that the TV uses LG Display’s WOLED panel, the same panel used in LG’s B-Series OLED TVs, which would indicate strong picture quality.

Sansui’s re-entry into the U.S. market with a competitively priced OLED TV could signal a shift toward more affordable OLED options. The TV market has long been dominated by a few key players, and OLED technology has typically been associated with premium pricing. By offering a 55-inch OLED model at a sub-$1000 price point, Sansui is positioning itself to challenge the status quo and make OLED technology more accessible to a broader range of consumers.
