Ring’s Outdoor Cam Plus Watches Over Your Home in 2K—Even in Near Darkness

Ring has officially introduced the Outdoor Cam Plus, a fresh addition to its growing lineup of security cameras. Priced at $99.99 and set to start shipping on March 26, 2025, this new model brings some noticeable upgrades—most notably, 2K video resolution right out of the box. That makes it the first in Ring’s outdoor camera family to offer this level of clarity from day one.

The biggest upgrade here is the 2K video resolution, offering a crisp 2560 x 1440 pixels—a solid jump from the 1080p resolution found in earlier Ring outdoor models. This improvement is powered by Ring Vision, a combination of software, hardware, and Ring’s own technical expertise. The camera uses a high-quality lens and advanced imaging sensors, combined with dynamic image processing, to deliver clear visuals whether you’re watching a live feed or reviewing past recordings.

One feature that stands out is Low-Light Sight technology. Unlike some of Ring’s other cameras, there’s no built-in spotlight on this model. Instead, it uses smart image processing to enhance visibility in darker settings. As long as there’s a bit of ambient light—say, from a nearby streetlamp—you’ll still get clear, colorful footage even in low-light conditions.

The camera’s 160-degree field of view breaks down to 140 degrees horizontally and 80 degrees vertically, giving you wide coverage for monitoring larger spaces. It’s also pretty compact, measuring 5.0 x 2.6 x 2.6 inches (including the stand), making it a good fit for various setups, whether you’re securing a backyard, driveway, or office entrance.

Flexibility is a big part of what makes the Outdoor Cam Plus appealing. It’s built to handle both indoor and outdoor use, with a weather-resistant design that holds up in different environments. Whether you want it mounted on a wall, attached to a ceiling, or just placed on a table indoors, the easy-to-install mounting system has you covered.

When it comes to power, you’ve got a few options to suit different needs:

  • Battery-powered: Great for easy installation without wiring.
  • Plug-in: Ideal for continuous power, especially indoors.
  • Solar-powered: Use a compatible USB-C solar panel to keep the battery topped up outdoors.

This range of power choices makes it adaptable for various setups, whether you’re securing a front porch, backyard, or even an indoor space that needs extra monitoring.

Out of the box, the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus comes with core features like motion detection, real-time alerts, Live View, and Two-Way Talk—so you can see, hear, and speak to anyone in view of the camera.

For more advanced features, though, you’ll need to subscribe to one of Ring’s service plans:

  • Ring Home Basic ($5/month or $50/year): Provides up to 180 days of video history, plus alerts for people, packages, and vehicles.
  • Ring Home Standard ($10/month or $100/year): Covers all Ring devices at a single location, offers 30-minute live viewing, and allows for picture-in-picture and multi-camera views.
  • Ring Home Premium ($20/month or $200/year): Unlocks 24/7 recording (for plug-in models only) and AI-powered Smart Video Search to help you quickly find specific events.

While the Outdoor Cam Plus brings some solid upgrades, there are a few features you won’t find here. Notably, it doesn’t include 3D Motion Detection or Bird’s Eye View, which are available on higher-end models like the Ring Stick Up Cam Pro and some of Ring’s floodlight cameras. That said, leaving out these premium features likely helped keep the price more affordable while still delivering on core functions.

Ring also continues to emphasize privacy and security across its product range, and the Outdoor Cam Plus is no exception. Users can set up customizable privacy zones to block off areas they don’t want to monitor or record. Plus, there’s a blue indicator light that clearly signals when the camera is recording.

All Ring devices come with two-step verification for added security, and the company also offers end-to-end video encryption as an optional feature.

The Ring Outdoor Cam Plus is available for pre-order now on Ring.com and Amazon for $99.99, with shipping beginning on March 26, 2025.
