Australian audio brand BlueAnt has just dropped its latest wireless over-ear headphones, the Pump X—and they’re designed with workouts in mind. These headphones aim to blend fitness-friendly durability, powerful sound, and long battery life, making them a potential go-to for gym-goers and anyone looking for a reliable pair of over-ears for daily use.
Over-ear headphones aren’t usually the first choice for working out—most people find them too bulky, and they can get uncomfortably warm. BlueAnt tries to tackle this issue with two sets of ear pads: standard memory foam cushions and an alternative cooling gel version to help keep things comfortable. You can swap them out depending on whether you’re hitting the gym or just lounging around.
On top of that, the Pump X is built to handle sweat and movement, with an IP54 rating for splash and sweat resistance. BlueAnt also says the fit is secure yet comfortable, making them a solid option for everything from weightlifting to running.
And if you don’t feel like reaching for your phone mid-workout, the right ear cup has a stylized "X" touch panel that lets you control volume and playback with a tap.
“We know that over-ear headphones need to cater to an active lifestyle which means it needs to be rugged and resistant to elements – but those shouldn’t come at the cost of the audio experience, which it often does,” says Taisen Maddern, CEO of BlueAnt.
“That’s not the case with Pump X, which was designed with flare and built with precision. It’s a perfect blend of form and function, designed to be easy to use, ready to withstand the rigors of a gym session and to pump bass and beats all day.”
The Pump X comes equipped with 40mm dynamic drivers, which BlueAnt says deliver rich, bass-heavy audio. If you need an extra boost, there’s “X-mode”, a built-in EQ setting that amps up the bass—a feature aimed at people who like to feel every beat in their music.
Beyond that, you get two other listening modes:
Whether you want to tune out the world or stay aware of it, these modes make it easy to adjust your listening experience based on where you are.
Battery life is another highlight of the Pump X. With ANC on, you get up to 34 hours of playtime—and if you turn ANC off, that jumps to 58 hours. Plus, a quick 10-minute charge gives you four extra hours of playback with ANC or six without it. That’s enough to last through plenty of workouts (or a few long flights).
As for connectivity, the Pump X supports Bluetooth 5.4 and USB-C audio. That means you can use them wirelessly or plug them in via USB-C for a wired digital audio connection. However, there’s no traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, so if you’re someone who prefers a classic wired setup, that might be a downside.
The four built-in microphones are also worth noting—BlueAnt says they help with clearer phone calls, whether you’re at the gym, in an office, or on the move.
Despite being over-ear headphones, the Pump X is foldable, making them easy to pack up and carry around. They come with a storage pouch and a clip, so they’re easy to throw in a bag when you’re on the go.
The Pump X seems geared toward people who want over-ear headphones that can handle workouts but also work for everyday use. The sweat resistance, bass-boosting mode, and long battery life make them gym-friendly, while features like ANC, transparency mode, and foldability make them versatile beyond fitness.
That said, if having a 3.5mm headphone jack is a must or you’re looking for something ultra-light for workouts, these might not be the perfect fit. But for those who want big sound and comfort in an over-ear design that won’t fall apart in the gym, the Pump X could be worth checking out.
