Eufy’s FamiLock S3 Max: A Smart Lock That Reads Your Palm to Let You In

Eufy’s latest smart lock, the FamiLock S3 Max, ditches keys and fingerprints in favor of palm-vein recognition for secure, hands-free entry.

Eufy’s FamiLock S3 Max: A Smart Lock That Reads Your Palm to Let You In

Smart home security just got an upgrade with Eufy’s FamiLock S3 Max, a video smart lock that lets you unlock your door with just a wave of your hand. This high-tech lock doesn’t just rely on fingerprints or keycodes—it scans the unique vein patterns in your palm for a hands-free, secure way to enter your home. It also comes with a 2K video camera, a touchscreen keypad, and works with top smart home systems like Matter and Apple Home.

The FamiLock S3 Max introduces palm-vein recognition, a biometric security feature that Eufy claims has an accuracy rate of 99.99999%. Unlike fingerprint scanners that can be tricky for kids or older adults, palm recognition works effortlessly—just wave your hand over the infrared sensor, and you’re in. It can store up to 50 different palm prints, making it easy for the whole family to use.

If waving your hand isn’t your thing, don’t worry—Eufy gives you plenty of options:

  • Use a PIN code on the touchscreen keypad
  • Unlock remotely through the Eufy app
  • Use a physical key like a traditional lock
  • Sync with Amazon Alexa or Google Home for voice control

The FamiLock S3 Max is also built to last. It’s ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 certified, meaning it meets the highest security standards. Eufy says it’s tested for 250,000 lock/unlock cycles and can even withstand repeated hammer strikes.

A major perk of the FamiLock S3 Max is its 2K camera, which gives you a wide-angle view (150° vertical and 180° diagonal) of your doorstep. It’s great for keeping an eye on deliveries and visitors in real time.

Unlike many other smart locks, the S3 Max comes with 8GB of local storage, so you don’t need a subscription to review past footage. If you want even more smart features like facial recognition, you can connect the lock to Eufy’s HomeBase 3 hub.

For added convenience, the S3 Max has an optional built-in screen, acting like a digital peephole. This is especially useful for kids or anyone who doesn’t have access to the Eufy app—it shows a live feed of who’s at the door instantly.

Nobody wants a smart lock that dies on them. Eufy tackles this with a dual power system:

  • 15,000mAh rechargeable battery
  • Four AAA backup batteries

This setup keeps the lock running for up to six months in full mode and up to 12 months with basic operation. So, even if the main battery is charging, your door stays functional.

The FamiLock S3 Max is one of the first smart locks to support Matter over Wi-Fi, making it easy to sync with Apple, Amazon, Google, and SmartThings devices.

It also supports Wi-Fi 6, which means faster, more stable connections when checking your camera feed or unlocking your door remotely.

Eufy has added a built-in AI door sensor that lets you know if the door is properly closed and locked—no more second-guessing when you leave the house. There’s also a loitering detection system that alerts you if someone hangs around your entryway for too long.

The Eufy FamiLock S3 Max is available for pre-order starting February 19, 2025, for existing Eufy customers on Eufy.com. Pricing options:

  • $399.99 (with the interior video screen)
  • $349.99 (without the screen)

Customers who pre-order can get a $70 discount by unlocking a code for $1. The full launch happens on March 17, 2025, on Eufy.com, Amazon, BestBuy.com, and HomeDepot.com.
